www.shoppingdotcom.co.uk Argentine politicians have vowed to regain sovereignty of the Falkland Islands on the 25th anniversary of the start of its war with Britain.
Speaking to crowds in the southern city of Ushuaia on Monday, vice-president Daniel Scioli referred to the islands situated 300 miles off the coast of Argentina by the Spanish name, the Malvinas.
With a current population of 3,060, the small islands are a self-governing UK overseas territory but Argentina's claim to them dates back almost 180 years to 1829.
In 1982 the islands were invaded by Argentine forces, beginning a 74-day war between Argentina and the UK which ended when British troops gained control of the islands' capital Stanley.
Mr Scioli called to the British government to reopen channels of communication between the two nations. "Once again we urge the United Kingdom to heed international calls and resume negotiations in the appropriate manner - through the UN."
Also speaking at Monday's event Jorge Chevalier, head of the armed forces, warned the crowds: "Too much blood was spilt and that should never be repeated".
