www.shoppingdotcom.co.uk More than 500 of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner passenger jets have now been purchased less than three years after orders began.

Five orders from Japan Airlines (JAL) and other customers brought the total orders for the Dreamliner, not due to have its first commercial flight until 2008, to 514.

Scott Carson, president and chief executive officer at Boeing, said the group was celebrating "some great news with one of our greatest customers".

"This is an unprecedented achievement for Boeing and yet another wonderful milestone for the 787 program. We are very gratified that the 787 will play a key role in the future plans of JAL and so many other industry-leading airline customers," he added.
