The company, which offers a rapid response service and insurance for emergencies ranging from burst pipes to fused wiring, revealed results for the first six months of its financial year, with turnover rocketing more than 70 per cent from £87.8 million to £150m.

Homeserve chairman Brian Whitty said the 75,000 sq ft Walsall headquarters was currently home to around 900 people, but that a newly completed £3.7m extension was already full.

"We need to build another 40,000 sq ft office, and we have a couple of options - one at Walsall and the other at Norwich. We are currently talking to Advantage West Midlands about some financial support, and we would certainly prefer to extend in Walsall, where the discussions we have had with the local council have been very positive."

Homeserve now has around 4.3m policyholders in the UK, the majority covering plumbing and drains services, with a massive 664,000 policies being taken out in the last six months.
