TORONTO, April 26 (Reuters) - Suncor Energy Inc. (SU.TO: Quote, Profile , Research)said on Thursday its first-quarter profit was lower comparedwith its 2006 results when it included proceeds from aninsurance claim.

Suncor, best known for its extensive oil sands mining andsynthetic crude processing operation in northern Alberta,earned C$551 million ($492 million), or C$1.20 a share duringthe quarter, down from year-earlier C$713 million, or C$1.56 ashare.
